چکیده

In this paper, a thermomechanical coupled phase field method is developed to model cracks with frictional contact. Compared discrete methods, the can represent arbitrary crack geometry without an explicit representation of surface. The two distinguishable features proposed are: (1) for mechanical phase, no specific algorithm needed imposing contact constraints on fracture surfaces; (2) thermal formulations are incorporating damage parameter so that different conductance conditions accommodated. While stress updated explicitly in regularized interface regions under conditions, conductivity determined conditions. particular, we consider pressure-dependent (PDM) fully along other three models, i.e., conductive (FCM), adiabatic (ACM), and uncoupled (UCM). potential formulation showcased by several benchmark problems. We gain insights into role temperature affecting field. Several 2D boundary value problems addressed, demonstrating model’s ability capture cracking phenomena effect compare our results methods as well very good agreement achieved.

System identification of a beam with frictional contact

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be  applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...

Simulation of fully coupled thermomechanical analysis of disc brake rotor

Vehicle braking system is considered as one of the most fundamental safety-critical systems in modern vehicles as its main purpose is to stop or decelerate the vehicle. The frictional heat generated during braking application can cause numerous negative effects on the brake assembly such as brake fade, premature wear, thermal cracks and disc thickness variation (DTV). In the past, surface rough...

A hybrid level-set-phase-field method for two-phase flow with contact lines

We present a hybrid method combining a level set model with a phase field model. Contact line dynamics are represented by the full phase field model, whereas the convective interface transport and the evaluation of surface tension in the bulk of the domain are realized by a conservative level set model. This combination avoids the singularity at the contact line that is present in classical lev...

A Fully implicit, Fully adaptive multigrid method for multiscale phase-field modelling

A fully implicit, fully adaptive multigrid method for the simulation of free dendritic growth into an undercooled melt has been developed and applied to various phase-field models. The main aim of this work is to demonstrate that advanced numerical methods, such as mesh adaptivity, implicit time stepping, multigrid methods and variable time step control, are not only advantageous compared to wi...

Stress Field at a Sliding Frictional Contact: Experiments and Calculations

Using a MEMS-based sensing device, we have measured the normal and tangential stress fields at the base of a rough elastomer layer in contact with a smooth glass cylinder in steady sliding. This geometry allows for a direct comparison between the stress profiles measured along the sliding direction and the predictions of an original exact bidimensional model of friction. The latter assumes Amon...
